Opportunities present themselves daily in many forms; often presenting themselves in insignificant clothing. Mistakenly, we think of opportunity based on size or scale. Defining opportunity solely on its grandeur can be counterproductive and even damning.
Every opportunity is the opportunity for a greater opportunity.
Every great contest, war, spiritual, physical, sport, is a series of small battles. Within each battle, lies the opportunity to better your footing for the next opportunity or increases your chances of winning the war. When you think of every day, client, or job as just a small battle in the war against mediocrity, it betters your chance for success.
For example, one function of Illogic is photography. I enjoy it and therefore love sharpening my craft. When I see a cool opportunity to shoot small events for friends or family, I will do it. Not only is it practice for me, but it also gives me more exposure and more marketing material. I see that as a battle won. At my past jobs, I’ve been a part of employee boards and committees that gave me great insight and visibility with upper management. It’s simple strategy. I am my own marketing agency. I have always felt this way. That small opportunity may not mean anything today or this week, but it puts you in a great position for a grander opportunity.
Seek out opportunities daily that will sharpen your skills, put you in a better position, and/or make you more marketable.
